CONGRATULATIONS TO THE UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH PACIFIC ON REACHING THE MILESTONE OF 50 YEARS

Labor congratulates the University of the South Pacific on marking its 50th anniversary.

This remarkable milestone is a tribute to past and present staff and management of the
University and Labor pays tribute to all those responsible for achieving this significant
milestone.

The University of the South Pacific is regionally owned by 12 member countries - Cook
Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga,
Tuvalu, Vanuatu and Samoa.

In reaching a half a century, it is important to acknowledge the vision of the university's
leaders, to provide the peoples of the Pacific with a leading tertiary education institution.

This also demonstrates the value in working collaboratively around a shared history and
geography to cultivate a higher place of learning.

Over 50 years, many graduates have continued to contribute across all spheres of community - this is the real worth of a regional university.
